Among most of the richest people of America, men are still leading. Yet, according to this year’s Forbes 400 list of wealthiest people in the US, women continue to hold their ground. There are 56 women on the list, unchanged from a year ago. They are worth a collective $564 billion, up by more than $100 billion from 2020. Net worth mart is a famous website that publishes about the net worth of famous people. You can also read about them by visiting this magazine as well.

The richest woman of America from the last seven years is the Walmart heiress Alice Walton with an estimated net worth of $67.9 billion.  As a result of the 13% rise in Walmart stock, she is $5.6 billion richer than last year.

The second richest woman is the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, who has been at this rank for the last two years. She has given away nearly $8.6 billion since 2020 to some 780 nonprofits as part of her ongoing efforts to donate her Amazon riches which she described as made from “systems in need of change”, in a Medium blog post in June.

Since last year, more than 90% of the women on the 2021 Forbes 400 got richer. But the highest achiever in dollar terms is Fidelity Investment chief executive Abigail Johnson with a net worth that rose from $10 billion to $25.2 billion, owing to tremendous performance across the asset management space. She has grown Fidelity’s discretionary assets by nearly $1.3 trillion to $4.2 trillion, since last year.

The next achiever is the widow of Steve Jobs, Laurence Powell Jobs. She is the co-founder of investment and advocacy firm Emerson Collective, thanks to a 66% jump in Apple stock and a 53% rise in Disney shares.

Although the number of women on the list is the same as that of last year, three newcomers and one returnee replaced four women from last year’s ranking. Oprah Winfrey dropped out of the list despite her $2.6 billion fortune holding steady, making 2021 the first time to Forbes 400 in 26 years. Co-founder of retailer GAP, Doris Fisher, also dropped off this year, as did real estate heirs Amy Goldman Fowler and Diane Kemper of New York.

The newcomers include Melinda French Gates whose current net worth is around $6.3 billion after getting billions worth of public stock after getting a divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The second one is Miriam Adelson, who inherited her late husband Sheldon Adelson’s entire stake in the casino empire Las Vegas Sands.

Another newcomer is Trudy Cathy White, who joined Forbes 400 after she inherited part of the Chick-Fil-A Fried chicken chain initiated by her father, Truett Cathy in 1967. Moreover, her two brothers, Dan Cathy and Bubba Cathy have been members of Forbes 400 since 2015.

Another member is Gail Miller who restored her position in this list with an estimated net worth of $3.2 billion, owing to selling most of her family’s majority stake in NBA Utah’s Jazz for some $1.66 billion in October 2020.

Very few women this year have self-made fortunes, with just 10 claiming distinction. Roofing supply billionaire Diane Hendricks is at the top of these self-made billionaires, with an estimated net worth of $11 billion.
